Arrests after booze raid drama

08/07/2013 @ 01:51

Two Eastern European men have been arrested after eye witnesses reported a dramatic chase across Tesco car park with employees in hot pursuit.

The drama unfolded last Friday when staff grew suspicious of a group of men and reported it to police. A chase was then seen and two of the men, from Latvia and Romania but living in Wolverhampton, were arrested and will appear before Welshpool Magistrates for theft offences.

The superstore appears to have gained a reputation as a soft target  for criminals after several booze raids reported over the past fortnight. But a senior police officer says the arrests should act as a warning to others after investigations also linked the men to thefts on June 29.

Detective Inspector Diane Davies said: “There have been a number of recent incidents whereby criminals have travelled into the area to steal.  Our neighbourhood policing teams have been working with retailers to address the offences.  I appreciate the support that we have had from the retailers whose vigilance have led to a number of arrests.  In support of our local communities, we will always take positive action to ensure that Powys is recognised as an unsafe place for criminals.”

And don’t forget you can play your part too. Call 999 if you spot an emergency or 101 to report a non-emergency.
