Welshpool Livestock Sales report on an auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (51)

An entry of 51 Over Thirty Month Old Cattle sold to average 148.08 ppkg for the older cows, 172.82 ppkg for the heifers and 161.45 for the steers under 48 months. A Charolais cow weighing 634 kg achieved a top price of £1229.96 from D Jones, Moelddolwen, a under 72 months cow from the same vendor weighing 750 kg made £1107. A Salers cow weighing 680 kg made £1210.40 from TD Jones and Son, Glyn Farm. JAR Wilde, Golfa Farm sold a younger British Blue cow weighing 734 kg for £1225.78. D Jones, Moelddolwen receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. More cows are required to fulfill demand. FAT CATTLE (8)

An entry of 8 fat cattle sold to a very good average of 225.84 ppkg. JM Rowlands, Dolwen presented two fat Limousin heifers achieving 275 ppkg for 560 kg and 260 ppkg for 491 kg. Other heavy heifers made 250 ppkg for 517 kg and 243 for 560 kg from IM Willian, Ty Mawr. One Limousin steer from ML and EA Davies, Brynheulog realised 200 ppkg for 633 kg. JM Rowlands receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday at approximately 12.30pm. An entry of 193 Prime Hoggets, sold to an overall average of 134.06 ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1) to 141 ppkg from G James and Son, Penybank.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (14) to 164 ppkg from CE Jones, Penygelli. Average of 133.61 ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (25) to 135 ppkg from CE Jones, Penygelli. Average of 134.95 ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (41) to 137 ppkg from A Evans, Brynperffaith. Average of 136 ppkg.

 

PRIME LAMBS (5045)

An entry of 5045 Prime lambs, sold to an overall average of 223.33 ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25kg) (66) to 200 ppkg from RA and TG Evans, Cae Cyno, others achieving the same from JM and IM Lewis, Erwbarf.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (472) to 234 ppkg from JH and SA Pughe, Gwernbere. Others to 233 ppkg from IM Lewis, Erwr Llan. Average of 222.72 ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1791) to 247 ppkg from DD and MJ Evans, Pantywynthrew. Others to 240 ppkg from EW Jones, Tytanyfoel. Average of 224 ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2510) to 249 ppkg from DP Casewell, Tanrhiw. Others to 237 ppkg from J Ruggeri, Gwaelodyrhos. Average of 222.99 ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (148) to 234 ppkg from AE Casewell, Bodynfoel. Others to 229 ppkg from JM Price, Maeshyfryd. Average of 213.93 ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (7) to 207 ppkg from CE Pryce, Yr Helyg, Others to 202 ppkg from DP Casewell, Tanrhiw. Average of 193.88 ppkg.

 

CULL EWE (3427)

An entry of 3427 met with a steady trade achieving an average of £45.51 for the ewes and £62.27 for the rams. Ewes topped the sale at £120 per head from CL and C Watkins, Bank Farm, others to £114 from GE Davies and Sons, Cwmbromley. Rams topped at £116 per head from RE Lewis, Gribin. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of prime lambs at approx 12 noon.  

 

COUPLES

A small entry of ewes with lambs. Welsh full mouth ewes with twin lambs at foot achieved £95 from JLL Jones, Y Felin.

Please note: sales of breeding ewes through the sale ring, will commence Monday 29th July.

COWS & CALVES

A catalogue entry of 45 cows and calves where sold at the market on Monday 8th July. A British Blue cow with a Bull calf presented by P Wozencraft, Swnyglyn and a British Blue cow with a Heifer calf presented by G Hughes & Son, Pertheirin both achieved £2120. Limousin cows with Bull calves presented by B Jones and Son, Cwmtrefarlo achieved £1920 and £1780.A top price of £990 for a British Blue heifer in-calf to a Limousin Bull from JP Morris, West Meadows, another from the same home made £940. A pedigree British Blue Stock Bull from A Davies, Penybryn realised £1800.

 

STORE CATTLE (68)

A seasonal entry of 68 Store cattle selling to average 225.56 ppkg for the steers, 243.24 for the bull and 210.04 ppkg for the heifers.
