MyWelshpool can reveal that the mobile library service run by Powys County Council costs tax payers £180,000 a year.
The figure has been obtained after the council said it was looking at making savings to the service. It could even be axed all together after it was revealed that at some of their 440 stops only one person uses the service.
Powys is currently inviting views and opinions from residents before it makes a final recommendation to the cabinet later in the year.
A council spokesperson told us: “We have four public mobiles across the county and last year each vehicle cost £40,000 to £45,000 to run. The figure varies because of repairs of maintenance needed and the mileage covered.”
The council has made questionnaires available from libraries. The closing date for responses is July 31.
It is under increasing pressure to make drastic budget cuts and is reviewing all of its services.
