Family offers £2,5k reward after theft

A Middletown family that was the victim of a heartless theft has offered a £2,500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the culprit(s).

Rebecca Pritchard says her family is "devastated" after burglars forced open a bedroom window some time on Monday and helped themselves to electrical items and watches, but it is the theft of her four-year-old son’s savings box which has prompted the offer of a reward.

“It might seem rather extreme offering a £2,500 reward, particularly when it’s more than what the items are worth, but we don't even care about getting the items back, it’s the principle of the matter,” said Rebecca.

“The fact that they had no right to enter the property and steal is one thing, but to go into a child's room and take his money box is disgusting and the reason why we want them caught.

“We hear a lot nowadays of people's homes being burgled, central heating oil being stolen, items stolen for the scrap metal value etc, and our situation is no different or any more important than theirs.

“However they get away with it so it carries on. What has the world come to and what will it become in the future? So we want to take the matter into our own hands and will pay this reward for information that leads to the arrest of this person(s).

“My son wasn't saving up for anything in particular, but all his money gets put in his savings account for when he is older and needs it.”

Rebecca, whose family lives beside the busy main road through Middletown, believes the thieves may have been disturbed as they didn’t take the TV and hi-fi but had removed and taken the cables.

“Someone must have seen something and if they did, please let us know on 07708 931734 (Stuart),” said Rebecca.
