Arrest made in rape manhunt

A man has been arrested this evening by police investigating an alleged rape in Welshpool town centre during the early hours of Sunday.

Police are not releasing the name, but say the 27-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He is detained at Newtown police station where he will be interviewed.

The incident is believed to have taken place around 3am on Sunday morning in the area of Bear Passage, next to the now closed Signatures Pub. The area was cordoned off most of Sunday morning with a busy police presence in the town centre for most of the day.

Police are asking anyone who was in the vicinity around the time to get in touch on 101.
