Welshpool Livestock Sales report on an auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (46)

An entry of 46 Over Thirty Month Old Cattle sold to an average of 135.22 ppkg for the older cows and 148 ppkg for the heifers under 48 months. A British Blue cow weighing 795 kg made a top price of £1264.05 from JA Wood and Sons, Kinnerton Farm, and therefore receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. A Limousin cow weighing 670 kg made £1172.50 from also from Messrs JA Wood. An under 72 months old Limousin cow from T and B Williams, Cilmawr weighing 631 kg made £1091.63. An under 48 months Charolais Heifer from M Maiden, Cildyfnog weighing 648 kg made £1049.76. An under 72 months Limousin Bull from DMJ, ME and GDA Davies, Monksfield weighing 721 kg made £1362.69.

FAT CATTLE (1)

One Simmental Heifer was presented by AS and EM Goolden and Sons, Cil Bach, she weighed 619 kg and realised 184 ppkg, and therefore receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday at approximately 12.30pm. More Fat Cattle urgently required to meet a very strong demand from potential purchasers. PRIME LAMBS (2466)

An entry of 2466 Prime lambs, sold to an overall average of 175.66 ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (168) to 190 ppkg from D and G Andrew, Lower Brynygroes and M and H Evans, Ty Cerrig. Average of 182.74 ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (649) to 190 ppkg from TM Owen, Ty Coch. Others to 188 ppkg from TC Evans CaeGwyn. Average of 174.79 ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1460) to 193 ppkg from AE Casewell, Bodynfoel and TG Lewis, Brynycil. Average of 175.45 ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (170) to 190 ppkg and 183 ppkg from AE Caswell, Bodynfoel. Others to 182 ppkg from PR Evans and Son, Fachwen. Average of 173.46 ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (2) to 185 ppkg from GJ Williams, The Oak, and 159 ppkg from AL and RA Powell, Todleth Farm. Average of 171.38 ppkg.

CULL EWE (2038)

An entry of 2038 met with an improved trade seeing an average of £50.51 for the ewes and £62.65 for the rams. Rams topped the sale at £114 from JR Phillips and Son, Bank Farm. Ewes achieved a top price of £109 from AT Owen, Cloesffynnon and CL and C Watkins, Bank Farm, others to £90 from EO and VJ Roberts, Cefn Coed. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of prime lambs at approx 12 noon.
