A 64-year-old Manafon woman who went missing on Monday morning has been found safe and well near Llanwddyn this morning (Wednesday).

Petra Herkes (right), who is originally from Holland and is known locally as the ‘flower lady’, suffers from Alzheimer’s and went missing after setting off for her regular morning walk at 7am two days ago.

A massive search was launched by police, supported by specialist mountain rescue teams with air support, and thankfully there is a happy ending with Petra being found safe.

MyWelshpool readers turned to Twitter and Facebook to spread the word after we broke the news of her disappearance yesterday and police have been quick to show their appreciation.

“Many thanks for your assistance in securing this successful outcome,” said a police spokesperson. “It is thanks to the community response with a number of sightings being reported that led to locating Petra safe and well. We’d also like to thank the tireless efforts of the police response and that of the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team and the North & East Wales Mountain Rescue Team over the 28-hour period of the search.”
