Local shows join forces

Four popular agricultural shows in North Powys are again joining forces to promote the events and offer a coveted piece of silverware to sheep breeders this summer.

A salver will be awarded to the competitor that gains the most points in the sheep sections at Guilsfield, Llanfyllin, Berriew and Llanfair Caereinion shows.

The salver, which will be presented at Llanfair Caereinion Show on August 31, is a spin-off of a marketing collaboration between the four shows - together with Montgomery Show - which began in 2006.

The five show secretaries now share ideas and information with a view to improving their annual events. The group produces a ‘5 Local Shows’ leaflet promoting all five events.

“By awarding a trophy as a group for the best in the sheep section we hope to encourage competitors to gain points at each of the shows,” Jill Hollinshead, Llanfyllin Show secretary. “We think it’s very important that we all work together to promote and improve our shows.”

The dates of this year’s shows are: Guilsfield Show on Thursday, August 8; Llanfyllin Show on Saturday, August 10, Montgomery Show on Saturday, August 17, Berriew Show on Saturday, August 24 and Llanfair Caereinion Show on Saturday, August 31.

The show secretaries are: Guilsfield, Sally Jones (01938 553110), Llanfyllin, secretary Mrs Hollinshead  (01691 828628), Montgomery, Mary Bunner (01686 668658), Berriew, Anna Jones (01686 640164) and Llanfair Caereinion, Liz Harding (01938 556483).
