Successful Texel Sheep sale

Welshpool Livestock Sales reports on The Welsh National Show and Sale of Texel Sheep which took place on August 24.

A highly successful sale was held with 299 sheep catalogued. The event was very kindly sponsored by Harbro and Natural Stock Care LTD and judge on the day was Mr J E Davies, Llandeilo, of  the Teilo Flock. The overall champion was Wayside U Bet a novice ram lamb from Charlotte Alford of Foxhill Farm who reached 2000gns and was bought by JE & SJL James, Neuadd Blaenduhonw, Maesmynis, Builth Wells. Although this was the Overall Champion on the day it was not the highest priced animal, this went to Sportsman’s Urban, presented by Messrs Boden & Davies, Mellor Hall Farm. This ram was in the Open Ram Lamb competition and reached a top price of 3800gns.

Ewes averaged £440.40 Yearling rams averaged £855.63 and Ram Lambs £651.45

Overall Champion – C Alford, Foxhill Farm 2000gns

Reserve Overall Champion - Boden & Davies Ltd, Mellor Hall Farm 3800gns

Pedigree Yearling Ram

Top Price on the day for this section went to CE Pryce, Yr Helig and his ram Caereinion Thor which achieved a top price of 2000gns. Loosebeare Tricolour presented by EW Quick also reached a price of 2000gns. Others reached 1300gns which was also presented by CE Pryce.

Pedigree Ram Lamb

There was a large number of rams presented in this section but top price went to Messrs Boden & Davies, Mellor Hall Farm with their ram Sportsman’s Urban which achieved 3800gns on the day. Tophill Ulrich presented by JD Houghton, Isherwood Farm and achieved a price of 2800gns. Others in this class reached 2200gns which was presented by O Rhys, Hendy and the ram was Seiont Ultimate.

Pedigree Yearling Ewe

This was the smallest section on the day but still achieved good prices. Hull House presented by John Mellin, Hull House Farm, Hellifield achieved a price of 1400gns. Aman presented by J & GY Davies, Pen Yr Heol Farm reached a price of 1050gns. Others in the class achieved a price of 720gns which was presented by EW Quick, Loosebeare Manor.
