Now, a story with a happy ending...

There’s a lot of doom and gloom around at present so here’s a nice timely feel good story with a happy ending!

A young swan, that couldn’t fly, was left behind by its family after becoming trapped between two locks on the Montgomeryshire Canal near Arddleen.

RSPCA officers were alerted to the cygnet’s plight, and with the bird panicking and fearing its swan song was near, an officer came to the rescue.

“The cygnet was unable to fly and had ended up alone on the canal at Arddleen so it was important to try and reunite it as soon as possible,” said  RSPCA officer Claire Davies (pictured).

Claire managed to catch the cygnet in a net and, after making sure he wasn’t injured, the cygnet was placed in a specially designed swan bag and put in a carrier (above) while a search was launched for the rest of his family.

“Eventually we found two adult swans and a number of other cygnets further along the canal and after he was released he quickly swam to be with his family,” said Claire.

They family was last seen swimming towards Welshpool so look out for them on the canal (right)!
