Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday 

OTMS (68)

A larger entry of Over thirty month cattle sold this week to average 138.37ppkg for the older cows, 48 to 72 month old cows selling at 146.78ppkg, the older bulls reached an average of 139.90ppkg, the 48 to 72 month old bulls made 161ppkg and the under 48 month heifers averaged 170.17ppkg. A British Blue cow weighing 714kg from BL Griffiths, Lower Penygelli achieved the top market price of £1335.18; therefore Mr Griffiths receives the Briarwood Products Limited Prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.  A Limousin cow weighing 809kg made £1334.85 from RB Jones, Llwynobin. An older Limousin bull weighing 848kg made a total of £1263.52 from JA Williams, Lechwedd-Ddyrys.

A Charolais cow under 72 months weighed 806kg made £1491.10 from EH Pennie & Son, Gwern-yr-Ycha. An under 48 month British Blue heifer weighing 650kg made a total of £1280.50 from BL Griffiths, Lower Penygelli.

FAT CATTLE (7)

4 medium weight steers averaged a price of 218.70ppkg and topped at 222ppkg. A Limousin steer weighing 543kg topped the sale of steer fat cattle at 222ppkg and was presented by DC Jones & Son, Ty Hir. 4 Heavy weight heifers were presented at the sale, 3 from Jones Bros, Ystradolwyn which weighed 232kg and reached a price of 232ppkg. The Briarwood Products Limited Prize of £25 for the highest price pence per kilo goes to Jones Bros, Ystradolwyn.

PRIME LAMBS (5142)

An entry of 5142 prime lambs, achieving an average of 168.57ppkg.  

Super Lights (2) to 146ppkg from EL Evans & Co, Green Farm. Average of 146ppkg

Lights (349) to 179ppkg from S Dobson, Park Lodge. Others to 171ppkg from MR Partridge, Fforddlas. Average of 165.35ppkg.

Standards (955) to 179ppkg from J Balmer, Tycanol. Others to 178ppkg from S Esslemont, Brynhyfryd. Average of 163.77ppkg.

Medium’s (2801) to 207ppkg from TE & MA Jerman, Penyffridd. Others to 195ppkg from DWP Griffiths, Park Lodge. Average of 170.28ppkg

Heavies (887) to 179ppkg from AE Casewell, Bodynfoel. Others to 177ppkg from RM Evans, New House. Average of 165.69

Over Weights (148) to 171ppkg from GTW Andrew, Bwlch. Average of 161.61ppkg.

CULL EWE (4013)

There were a fair number of entries this week seeing an average price of £39.20 for the ewes and £67.06 for the rams. Cull ewes topped the sale this week with a price of £109.50 from DTA Williams, Upper Bolbro; others reached £93 from EL Evans & Co, Green Farm. Rams achieved a top price of £106 from Tynybryn Farms, Tynybryn. Weekly sale of cull sheep to follow immediately after the sale of prime lambs at approx 12 noon.

STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 

Store Lambs: 420 Store lambs were entered averaging £55.  103 Theave lambs were entered with a top price of £66 presented by AM Jones, Middle Farm. 102 mixed lambs were entered with JT & GH Jones Talerddig achieving a top price of £60. A total of 141 Tup lambs were entered with the top price being £64 from SB & DG Lewis, Bronwydd and 7 Theave/Tup lambs were entered gaining a top price of £65 from RJ Lunt, Planfa.

Store Ewes: An increased entry of 800 breeding ewes entering the market this week. 432 yearling ewes achieving a top price of £138 for strong Welsh Mules from I Sevenoaks,  Pool Farm. Full mouth Mule Ewes forming part of a flock dispersal sale from A Pryce, Cefn Cleisiog sold to £94. More Store Sheep required with the sale of Store lambs and Breeding ewes. Sale to commence at 10:30am followed by Breeding Ewes at 11am.

STORE CATTLE

A small entry of 105 cattle presented at the sale on Monday, including some Organic cattle. Top price ppkg on the day went to I Evans, Hendreseifion with his Store Steer, and top price per head also went to I Evans, Hendreseifion with a store steer which achieved £1460.
