Local Iron Man Darren Jarman (pictured) is going to be breaking a serious sweat in a bid to raise money for the Air Ambulance on Sunday.
The fitness fanatic is undertaking the gruelling Welsh Ironman Triathlon which starts off with a 2.4-mile sea swim off the North beach in Tenby followed by a 112-mile bike around Pembrokeshire and then a 26.2-mile run to finish.
“Yep, that’s it!” said Darren when we caught up with him this week. “My love for events dates back to 2000 when I did my first half marathon and I caught the bug. Since then I have done numerous half marathons, a marathon and a number of sportives all in the aid of fun and charity!
“I started competing in triathlons back in 2010 and year on year the distances have increased. This year is the BIG one for me. I have so far this year completed three half marathons, an 85-mile sportive along with a sprint, Olympic and half-ironman distance triathlons in preparation.”
Darren races in the colours of Shrewsbury Triathlon Club, SYTri, but has decided to support his local cycling club - Hafren CC - who are raising money this year for the Welsh Air Ambulance.
“Whilst I am extremely fortunate to live in such a beautiful rural location, the Air Ambulance has been called out far too many times to people I know who would potentially not be with us today if not for its service.”
