With 10 keen buyers around the sale ring this week, a large entry of Over thirty month cattle sold to average 140.06ppkg for the older cows, Under 48 month old heifers sold to 164.78ppkg, cows a 48 – 72 months sold to an average of 147.26ppkg, and a bull at 72 months or older sold to 134ppkg. A Charollais cow weighing 898kg from EH Pennie & Son, Gwern-yr-Ucha achieved the top market price of £1544.56; therefore Mr Pennie receives the Briarwood Products Limited Prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. CULL EWE (3415)
There were a higher number of entries again this week seeing an average price of £40.51 for the ewes and £72.33 for the rams. Cull rams topped the sale this week with a price of £180 from W Jones, Glascoed; others reached £135 from G Griffiths, Bryncylla. Ewes achieved a top price of £95 from G Griffiths, Bryncylla. Weekly sale of cull sheep to follow immediately after the sale of prime lambs at approx 12 noon.

Store Lambs: An increased entry of 422 Store Lambs averaging £49 per head. Good headed
Store Ewes: An increased entry of 1403 breeding ewes AF Davies produced the top price of £139 for
DAIRY
An entry of eight dairy cattle sold to a top of £1910 for a Net-a-way heifer from WA & EM Morris, Maestanyglwden. A sound second calver giving 33kg of milk presented by RN Thompson sold for £1800. Two heifers from the same home sold for £1780 & £1700. Presented by Lewis Bros, Green Hall was a pedigree heifer which made £1770. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows:- 1800-2000 2 lots; 1600-1700 4 lots; 1400-1600 1 lot; <1400 1 lot.

Machinery Sale
Welshpool Machinery Sale held at Welshpool Livestock Market proved popular with both purchasers and vendors with a wide variety of items for sale.
These included 8 Quad Bikes with a top price of £3000 for an Artic Cat Diesel Quad. There was also a good choice of trailers with £2300 being paid for a 12ft Ivor Williams Stock Trailer, £2000 for an Ivor Williams Tipping Trailer and £1750 for a Flat Bed Ifor Williams.
Vehicles for sale included a Massey Digger 220 which sold for £1850, Case 1840 Skid Steer for £1850, Super Dexta £1450, McCormick International B275 £1600 and a David Brown 990 £1650.
Beltex Society Sheep Sale
A fantastic sale was held on September 4 with 228 sheep catalogued. The sale was sponsored by JG Animal Health and the judge on the evening was Mr John Slater. The Overall champion went to Lot 148, Cennen Soloman ET who achieved the best price on the day which was 3200gns. The yearling ram was presented by Mr & Mrs GJ & RA Williams, Blaencennen Farm and was bought by the shows judge Mr John Slater of Dandy Farm, Adlington. The reserve champion which was the Female champion was also presented by by Mr & Mrs GJ & RA Williams, Blaencennen Farm. This yearling ewe achieved a price of 1000gns and was sold to MT & ER Davies & Son, Bryn y Groes Fawr, Llanelli.
Yearling Ewes averaged £370.46, Ewe Lambs averaged £432, Yearling Rams averaged £581.20, Ram Lambs averaged £374.50 and Rams averaged £374.50 also.
Overall Champion – Lot 148, Cennen Soloman, Mr & Mrs GJ & RA Williams, Blaencennen Farm. 3200gns.
Reserve Champion - Lot 42, Cennen Sunny, Mr & Mrs GJ & RA Williams, Blaencennen Farm. 1000gns
Pedigree Yearling Ewes
Top price on the day went to Mr & Mrs GJ & RA Williams, Blaencennen Farm with their reserve champion yearling ewe which achieved a price of 1000gns. Others in the class reached 550gns which was presented by R & S Rattray, Ffos-y-Fuwch, and 540gns which was achieved by P Tippetts, Lodge Hill Farms Ewe.
Pedigree Ewe Lamb
Ewe lambs were achieving high prices on the day. Top price in this category was achieved by VJ & ML Roots, New House Farm which achieved 700gns, they also achieved many other high prices. Others in the category made 230 gns which was presented by A&R Livestock.
Pedigree Yearling Ram
The highest sold sheep on the day was in this class. The overall champion was a yearling ram which was presented by GJ & RA Williams, Blaencennen Farm which reached 3200gns on the day. Others in the class achieved 1180gns who was also presented by GJ & RA Williams, Blaencennen Farm. MH Owens, Glantre presented a ram which achieved 900gns on the day.
Pedigree Ram Lamb
Top price in this section was presented by RJ Hughes & CO, Argoed which achieved 550gns. Others in the class were sold achieved 400gns presented by A&R Livestock and 380gns presented by S&C Davies, Egryn.
Pedigree Rams
This was the smallest entered class in the sale with prices achieving a top of 400gns which was presented by R Jenkins Hughes, Wales & Border Beltex. Others in the class achieved 350gns.
