In addition to free entry on Sunday, visitors will be able to join celebrations as a further two pieces of modern Indian art are added to the Shakti exhibition.

To mark this exciting event a number of different activities will be taking place in the Clive Museum throughout the day.

At 11am, Mumbai-based artist Sharmila Samant will be giving a talk about how her residency at Powis Castle, and the time spent with the exceptional collection of Indian art in the castle’s Clive museum gave her the inspiration for these two new pieces.

The talk is free but booking is essential so contact Powis Castle on 01938 551929 (option 2) or email NTPowisMedia@nationaltrust.org.uk.

At noon, Samant will officially unveil both of her new pieces in the ballroom and she will be happy to answer any questions visitors may have as they view her work.

Finally from 1.30pm to 4.00pm, the Powis Castle courtyard will be playing host to members of Kala Sangam, a leading South Asian and collaborative arts organisation, who will be running free family workshops and demonstrations of Indian music, Bharatanatyam dancing and traditional story telling. Booking is not necessary for the workshops.

Lady Henrietta’s restaurant will be serving an exciting South Asian inspired menu from 11am to 5.30pm.

Ruth Scutter, Assistant Visitor Services Manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about South Asian traditions and the workshops will be a lot of fun. With music, dancing and storytelling this is definitely an afternoon not to be missed!”
