Record breakers!

Olympic star Brett Morse (right) leant a helping hand to Welshpool High School’s All Star team which ‘smashed’ the Marathon World Record in a time of 1.52:45 today (Wednesday).

Unfortunately the ‘record’ won’t be making its way into the Guinness Book of Records, but it did place the school in the world’s top five on a day that saw thousands of children from across the world unite to support Save The Children.

Mr Morse, who competed in London 2012 for Team GB in discuss, joined rising throwing star Adele Nicoll at her home town school for the World Marathon Challenge which involved 586 schools from dozens of countries.

The World Marathon Challenge involves the marathon distance divided into sections of 200m and tackled by a team of 26 to 36 members running consecutively, with each one completing up to 9 sections.

And Welshpool’s effort was staggering, smashing Wilson Kipsang’s world record time of 2.03:23, with only schools from England (first and fourth) and Estonia (second and third) running faster.

As the children went home to rest their tired feet, Mr Morse, from Penarth, tweeted: “We have a world record in Welshpool! Well done to everyone involved!”
