Prices revealed for new Burgess houses

24/10/2013 @ 12:18

The long-awaited prices for the properties under construction on Welshpool’s newest housing estate have been published.

The £5.6 million development on Burgesses’ Land at the top of Red Bank got underway last year with houses coming close to completion already. A total of 45 houses are under construction.

Mid-Wales Housing has revealed that a four-bedroom house will cost £199,500 while rentals start from £118.75 per week for a two-bedroom semi-detached bungalow.

However, renting a four bedroom detached house will only cost £8 more a week, with a three-bed semi-detached costing just £101.54.

A Mid-Wales Housing spokesperson explained why this was the case.

“The reason being that it is a different type/method of rent being charged - the two-bed properties are being charged at market rents which are higher than others,” he explained. This points to the possibility that some of the rents are being subsidised to meet social housing requirements.

Rental properties (per week)

Four bedroom detached house                       £126.92

Three bedroom semi-detached house            £101.54
