New garden of remembrance for residents

25/10/2013 @ 09:29

Welshpool is to open a new garden which will serve as a place to remember lost ones, while raising money for charity at the same time.

Marie Curie Welshpool has been given permission by the Town Council to create a Golden Memories Daffodil Bulb Garden on the site of the Motte and Bailey Castle (opposite Tesco).

The garden of remembrance will enable residents to purchase daffodil bulbs and a memorial card for a minimum donation of £1. Hundreds can be accommodated on the site and the completed memorial cards will be placed in albums and displayed at various locations throughout the year.

“The committee felt that it would be a lovely way to remember loved ones as well as a different way to help raise funds for the local branch. The town will also benefit from the gorgeous display of springtime colour,” said Christine Holmes, Donations Manager for Marie Curie Welshpool and proprietor of Flaunt-it Card and Gift Shop where the donations can be made.

Volunteers from the Ponthafren Association will be giving up their time over the next few weeks to plant the bulbs.

Meanwhile, an appeal for tombola prizes has also been requested for the Marie Curie table at the town’s Winter Festival, which Christine is also collating.
