Powys' farming community is being warned that they could face prosecution for animal movement and record irregularities, including breaching the six-day standstill rule.
Powys County Council's Trading Standards Service has issued the warning after a farmer / livestock dealer in the Llanidloes area was ordered to pay fines and costs amounting to £6,500 by Welshpool Magistrates Court.
Cllr Graham Brown, Board Member for Public Protection, said: "The six-day standstill rule is seen as an important disease control measure, ensuring the movement of animals is properly monitored, should a disease outbreak occur.
“Trading Standards Service provides important support to the farming community but must take strong action in the event of problems such as this. I would encourage farmers to contact the Trading Standards Service if they are unsure about their obligations under the current movement regime.”
