Welshpool Dictionary's Lembit lingo watch

19/11/2010 @ 01:59

Madcap Lembit Opik (right) may have to watch his words in the Jungle this week but many of his former constituents will be watching to see what words he uses.
The Welshpool Dictionary Facebook Group, created earlier this year, has alerted its 2,000-strong membership to keep a ‘listener to the ground’ for words and phrases used by the celebs who in the Aussie outback with the former Montgomeryshire MP for ITV’s I’m a Celeb programme.
The ‘Dictionary’ was informed by one member who was certain she heard the word “scran” (food) used twice on the show by one of the celebrities and posted: “It looks like our lingo is being broadcasted to the world!”
Hundreds of words and phrases that locals reckon are exclusive or commonplace to Welshpool have been posted on the Dictionary wall and its founder has promised to have a hard copy published next year.
Today the group told members: “Can you believe it? Our main monner (person from the area) Lembit has been using our lingo in the Jungle and it’s starting to rub off on the other celebs…. I am putting a quid on Nigel Havers being the first to call him a gork or a maigram!”
Earlier this week, former Jungle star Diane Modahl told mywelshpool that Lembit could be committing ‘Political suicide’ by entering the show and his first few days have been far from comfortable for the former Lib Dem MP.
