Tesco jobs glitch

19/11/2010 @ 02:10

Hundreds of Welshpool residents hoping to secure one of the 200 Tesco jobs before Christmas have been faced with confusion following a Jobcentre Plus letter.
The town has been waiting with bated breath for the job applications to become available through Jobcentre Plus, but the government agency informed residents this week that Tesco had decided to go it alone.
The move has left many fearful that local residents could miss out on priority appointments if the supermarket giants fill the vacancies on a first come first serve basis.
“It has left me feeling a little confused and really worried that I won’t have the chance to get a job,” said one jobless 27 year-old woman. “I have been out of work for three months and was sure that people like me would get the first bite at the jobs through Jobcentre Plus who knows us. But now I am worried we will just all be thrown into a big pot with people applying from everywhere.”
The letter landed through Welshpool letterboxes earlier this week and states:
“Tesco Recruitment have notified Jobcentre Plus that ALL job applications for the Welshpool store, must be made ONLINE at:- http://www.tesco-careers.com/home/you/stores
“Therefore, Jobcentre Plus will not be able to issue Tesco application forms as previously agreed. The job vacancies for the Welshpool store should appear on the Tesco web site from November 15. The web site also contains useful information about Tesco and its recruitment process. You may need to provide a postcode area to search for the Welshpool store vacancies.”
Mywelshpool tried logging onto the site last night and despite being three days after the 15th, was shown that there were no vacancies currently available.
Tesco said they will clarify the position after November 26 but, until then, residents are advised to keep trying the Tesco web site.
