Police issue roads warning and schools close

Police have issued a roads warning and three schools are to close this afternoon following this morning's heavy snow.

Welshpool police were advising motorists to think twice about travelling, particularly in the Aberystwyth direction following the storms that brought traffic on 'A' roads to a standstill.

"There are real problems caused by the sudden snowstorms," said Inspector Diane Davies. "Motorists are experiencing problems everywhere but travelling in the Aberystwyth direction is a real problem and we are advising motorists only to travel if their journey is essential."

The Staylittle to Machynlleth road was blocked.

Meanwhile Llanfyllin High School and Llangedwyn Primary Schools will close this afternoon along with Machynlleth County Primary School.

Meanwhile, Newtown will go ahead with the switching on of its Christmas Lights tonight as planned after a meeting held this afternoon decided it was safe to proceed.
