Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on
Monday 22nd November 2010.

OTMS (107)
Another good entry of 107 OTM cattle sold to a market average of 86ppkg for the 102 cows, 81ppkg
for the bulls and 119ppkg for the heifers and 115ppkg for the steers. J E Gittins & Sons Ystym Colwyn
presented a Charolais cow weighing 853kg to £912.71. F W Humphreys & Sons Brook House presented
two Limousin cows to £884.52 and £823.62. The Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 this week goes to J
E Gittins & Sons Ystym Colwyn. Weekly sale of OTM’s will commence at 9am prompt.

FAT CATTLE (31)
A good entry of 31 fat cattle presented saw the 10 steers average 154ppkg and the 21 heifers averaging
152ppkg. J T Lewis & Co Dolfor Hall presented a steer to 165ppkg and a heifer to 172ppkg. R E Lewis
Gribin presented three fat heifers to 184ppkg, 166ppkg and 156ppkg. R E Lewis Gribin receives the
Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest prize beast sold on the day.

PRIME LAMBS (6422)
An entry of prime 6422 lambs, selling to a very good average of 157ppkg.
Super Lights (94) to 146ppkg from HA & DJ Jones Willows. Others to 142ppkg from M Jones
Rhydarwydd.
Lights (610) to 165ppkg from W O Jones & Son Fraithwen. Others to 158ppkg from TD & J Downes
Cilcert Uchaf. Average of 152ppkg.
Standards (1838) to 181ppkg from JG & MWA Clayton Great Brimmon. Others to 174ppkg from DT &
CE Jones Hafod. Average of 155ppkg.
Mediums (2890) to 193ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Others to 178ppkg from E A MArston
New House. Average of 158ppkg.
Heavies (833) to 171ppkg from G L Jones Cefnrhosan. Others to 167ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank
Farm. Average of 148ppkg.
Over Weights (72) to 143ppkg from D R Oliver Tirdu. Others to 142ppkg from W E G Evans
Llwynycrwyth. Average of 136ppkg.

CULL EWE (1685)
A reduced entry of 1685 cull ewes sold to a market averaged of £48.38 for the ewes and £55.71 for the
rams. D & D Proberts Penparc sold ewes to a market high of £92 per head. TD & MJ Orrells & Son
Middle Llegodig sold ewes to £86 per head. DW & SM Roberts The white House presented cull rams to a
top prize of £110 per head.

STORE EWES & STORE LAMBS
A good entry of 1058 store lambs selling to an average of £50.90. Strong lambs are remaining to sell to
a higher trade with the with the smaller, hill lambs reducing the average. Suffolk theave lambs sold to
£63.80 from E K Meredith Lodge Farm. Suffolk mixed and clean lambs topped the sale at £64 from I P
Davies Son Heniarth Farm. Whether lambs reached £63 from A K Allen Lower Cilgee. Tup lambs were
up to £59 from DW & LE Morgan Lower House. Trade is remaining high, due to high demand shown by
a large crowd of potential buyers at the ring side.
A special entry of 150 in lamb ewes sold well with as found ewes and full mouth ewes scanned in lamb
with twins were sold up to £119 from Messers MM, WE & LA Lewis Ystradcaron Farm with singles
selling up to £84. As found ewes scanned in lambs with twins and singles made £112 from M R M
Matthews Tanyfron Garthmyl. A small entry of ewes lambs selling toan average of £73.33 with mule
ewes lambs topping the sale at £78 from H N Hodnett & Son Brode House knighton. Sale will commence
at 10.30am next week.

COWS & CALVES
Welshpool Livestock Sales held a herd dispersal of 27 cows and calves, two in calf heifers and a pedigree
stock bull on behalf of M Jones & Son The Brow on Monday 22nd November 2010. Top price of the
day was £1940 for a 2006 born cow with a Limousinx Bul calf at foot made £1620, whilst an 2000 born
Blonde D’Aquatainex cow with a Limousin bull calf made £1600. Two Limousinx cows born 2006 with

Limousinx heifer calves at foot sold for £1380 a piece. One Limousinx Belgian Blue In calf heifer and a
Belgian Bluex In calf heifer sold for £1010 and £900 respectively. The pedigree stock Limousin Bull sold
for £1600. Overall the 27 cows and Calves averaged £1048.52. A Breakdown of the prices achieved were
as follows: £1800 + 1 lot, £1600 - £1800 3 lots, £1400 - £1600 1 lot, £1200 - £1400 3 lots, £1000 - £1200
8 lots, £800 - £1000 8 lots, less than £800 6 lots.

DAIRY COWS
An entry of 11 dairy cattle met with a sound trade very similar to a fortnight ago. Top price was a Boss
Iron Heifer from Winsbury Livestock Ltd which sold for £1980. A second calver from the same home
sold for £1980. A 2nd calver from the same home sold for £1800. A Roylane Jordan heifer from WA &
EM Morris Masetanyglwyden made £1910. A Preston Shottle daughter from the same home sold for
£1740. DA & O Williams Penylan sold two Hyde Park Lenox heifers for £1900 and £1720. A Breakdown
of all prices achieved were as follows: £1900+ 3 lots, £1800 - £1900 1 lot, £1600 - £1800 2 lots, £1400 -
£1600 4 lots, less than £1400 1 lot.
