BREAKING NEWS: Windfarm plans are scrapped

19/12/2014 @ 10:51

Scottish Power has today pulled out of the Dyfnant Forest Windfarm Project.

ScottishPower Renewables has decides against pursuing the windfarm project which has been planned since 2008 and the news has been welcomed by MP Glyn Davies.

“Following a detailed review, ScottishPower Renewables has decided not to progress any further with Dyfnant Forest Windfarm,” said a statement.

The company has been working on proposals for the project since 2008, including a range of detailed technical and environmental studies at the site.

Simon Christian, UK Managing Director, ScottishPower Renewables, said: “Unfortunately, with anticipated lengthy planning processes and major grid modernisation required, we are not confident the project can be delivered in a timeframe that would make it financially viable for us.

“We are currently seeking to replace our turbines at Llandinam and we await a planning decision following a lengthy Public Inquiry. We have decided to focus our onshore wind efforts in Wales on this project.

“We have been an active wind power developer in Wales since 1992, and we hope that our association with renewable energy in the country will continue for many years to come.

“We would like to thank all of the residents, groups and interested parties who have been involved in the consultations during development of Dyfnant.”

The decision was welcomed by Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies who said he was delighted that the lovely forested area between Llangadfan and Lake Vyrnwy was being spared.

“Looks as if the army of local protestors have scored a great victory. Not sure yet of implications for Mid Wales Connection Project but the question is whether this is first domino to fall.

Powys County Councillor Myfanwy Alexander said: “This is fantastic news for us in the Banwy Valley.”
