Welshpool set to twin with Canadian town

Welshpool Town Council has agreed to seek an informal twinning agreement with Canadian town Simcoe.

The council accepted an invitation from the Welshpool High School run Youth Council for the twinning proposal at a meeting on Wednesday night.

An arrangement already exists between Welshpool and the Canadian town with school pupils enjoying exchange visits through the Rotary Youth Exchange each year.

The Town Council hopes to help the Rotary Club organise events when the Canadian students visit Welshpool and produce a formal scroll of twinning.

Town Clerk Robert Robinson said he believed councillors from Simcoe were planning a visit to Welshpool later this year when it was hoped to link-up.

Simcoe is in South Western Ontario and is located near to Lake Erie and is the county seat and largest community of Norfolk County, with a population of around 15,000.
