Town Council to get tough over dog poo

Owners who allow their dogs to poo in public places in Welshpool are coming under the spotlight again from the Town Council.

Members of the council’s Finance, Strategy and Monitoring Committee have recommended new action and have been given the full backing of the council.

The council has approved a £1,000 campaign to highlight the anti-social behaviour by dog owners after increasing reports of dogs fouling outside schools, on the canal towpath and in other public places.

New advertising signs outlining the anti-social behaviour offence will appear outside all the town’s junior and infants schools, along the canal, the Scancis pitch at Oldford and on Brookfield Road.

A campaign will also take place through the junior schools with pupils asked to take leaflets home tot heir parents.
