Royal Mail’s Christmas chaos

13/12/2010 @ 08:18

Royal Mail has apologised to customers in the Welshpool area but has warned them to expect more delays in deliveries in the run up to Christmas.
The company has been badly affected by the recent weather and took advantage of the weekend window of improving conditions to try and catch up on its massive back-log of undelivered parcels.
But with Christmas just 12 days away and more snow forecasted for later in the week,  many locals will face an anxious wait to see if presents will arrive on time.
One on-line shopper we spoke to has already been waiting two weeks.
“I ordered six items on pay day on November 30 from Amazon which have still not arrived so I am very worried!” she said. “I checked with Amazon and they just told me to check with Royal Mail and then I read the apology to customers which has made me even more concerned.”
Royal Mail has said: “In rural or remote areas of the UK, there may be some small scale, local disruption to services if snow or ice continues to make access unsafe. There may be some continued disruption in areas around the towns of Welshpool, Newtown, Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, Welshpool, and Llanidloes. We apologise to those customers who are experiencing delays to their deliveries at this time.”
