Putting ‘one over’ a mate

18/05/2015 @ 08:04

There’s nothing like putting ‘one over’ your mate, and Rory Sheen intends to do just that whilst paying tribute to his mum and dad who recently passed away within a week of each other.

Tony, 63, and Sue Sheen, 61, (pictured) sadly passed away last month following illnesses and son Rory decided he wanted to repay Severn Hospice for caring for his mother during her final days.

The couple ran Welshpool Golf Club so Rory will be playing 109 holes on June 1 with all proceeds raised going to the charity.

But why 109 holes? Rory explained it is to put one over a good mate who we have featured on MyWelshpool before.

“About 10 years ago, Andrew ‘Smooth’ Thomas did 108 holes and I think everyone is always looking for a way to annoy him so I thought going one-hole better would do the job!” he said.

Andrew was featured on here twice over the past year for becoming an internet sensation. The first was when he did a ‘nekandnominate’ challenge in his pants in Shrewsbury Town Centre and the second was when he recorded a stunning video for his wedding day. Both went viral.

“But seriously, I wanted to do something special that would show our appreciation to Severn Hospice. I was able to see what incredible work they do and they need public help to keep going.

“I’ll be carrying my own bag, probably starting about 4.30am and hopefully finish around 7pm. If I hit the ball straight it will be about 32 miles in total but Welshpool Golf Club isn’t flat so it will feel like a lot more!”

Anyone interested in sponsoring Rory can do so through the golf club or via Facebook.
