Villages cut off in the snow

19/12/2010 @ 04:19

Villages and towns in the Welshpool area were cut off to public transport over the weekend as more than 15cms of snow was dumped on the region.

A heavy Friday lunch time rain shower was quickly followed by heavy snow and overnight temperatures that plummeted to as low as -10.

It decimated the weekend’s sporting fixtures and created shopping misery as the much anticipated busiest day of the year on the high streets was virtually snowed off.

And public transport was hit hard. Saturday bus services were cancelled to Montgomery, Guilsfield and Berriew leaving many without any option but to stay home.

A spokesperson for Tanat Valley has advised all bus users to check their web site for updates with some services hopefully restored for Monday, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, Arriva Trains Wales is reporting that all services were expected to run as normal in Wales today (Sunday) following disruption to a several routes since Friday.
