It was another busy day’s trading at Buttington Cross on Monday

OTMS (40)

A good show of Otms met with an overall average of 113.75ppkg. Topping the section was IE & M Gittins & Sons, Lower Ucheldre, with a Limousin cow weighing 752kg making £1165.60 (155ppkg).

J C Hamer & Co, Cwm, presented a Limousin cow weighing 707kg which made £1018.08 (144ppkg).

EE Powell & Son, Cil Pentre, presented a Friesian cow 48 to 72 months weighing 794kg making £928.98 (117ppkg). A British Blue cow weighing 681kg from IE & M Gittins & Sons Lower Ucheldre, made £864.87 (127ppkg). Heifers under 48 months topped at £962.50 for a Friesian weighing 770kg from JE Jerman & Son, Lower Trehelig. A 39 month old Charolais Steer presented by EG & SA Watkin, Pantyfalog, weighed 658kg made £967.26 (147ppkg).

PRIME CATTLE (4)

4 top heavy heifers forward this week, selling to an overall average of 198.34ppkg. Topping the section was JM Rowlands, Dolwen Farm, selling a British Blue 586kg heifer making 256ppkg.  M A Jones & Son, Pentre Hall, sold three heifers witch average 179ppkg overall.

PRIME LAMBS (3842)

A larger entry of 3842 prime lambs selling to an average of 140.90ppkg

Lights (337) to 166ppkg from J P Jones, Gwastadgoed. Others to 162ppkg from EG Edwards & Co, Bryncelyn. Average of 155.17ppkg.

Standards (1059) to 160ppkg from J Lloyd, Penllan. Others to 159ppkg RA George, Penybank. Average of 140.59ppkg.

Mediums (1626) to 171ppkg from EL & JD Jones, Neuadd Fawr. Others to 169ppkg from B L Griffiths, Lower Penygelli. Average of 138.88ppkg.

Heavies (727) to 157ppkg from EL & JD Jones, Neuadd Fawr. Others to 150ppkg from RE & EA Jones & Son, Cletterwood. Average of 136.65ppkg.

Over Weights (53) to 145ppkg R & R Jerman, Ffridd Farm. Others to 139ppkg from J R Jones & Son, Bryntawel. Average of 128.67ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2528)

2528 culls forward which met with averages of £48.20 for ewes and £69.21 for rams.

CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm, topped the ewe section with a pen of four making £118. Also from the same home was a pen of 11 ewes making £99. HE & SC Davies Davies, Warbury Farm, presented four ewes making £98. EW Jones, Cesail-Y-Bryn, presented a ram making the top of £135. 

DAIRY COWS

4 dairy cattle forward met with a decent trade all things considered. A 2nd calver from RR Corfield & Co, Bronynant, sired by Wa-Del Junction, sold for £1410. A McCormick sired heifer from WA & EM Morris, Maestanyglwyden, made £1280. Two third calvers from WK Watkin, Wheatsheaf, made £1190 and £1000.

STORE SHEEP

A small entry of store lambs this week with Suffolk x lambs from EA Williams & Son, Typella, selling to £53. Sale of store lambs to commence 10.30am every Monday.

The first breeding ewe sale also took place this week selling to a promising trade. A run of Suffolk x yearling ewes from DE & KD Langford, Brunant, sold up to £131 and averaged £128.

The sale of breeding ewes to commence weekly at 11 am. Please contact the market office to inform of any entries.

STORE CATTLE

There was an excellent entry of 211 store cattle at the July sale of Store Cattle with some quality cattle on offer throughout the sale. Competition was brisk especially for the good outfits with plenty of buyers in attendance which resulted in steers averaging £1098 per head or 220ppkg and the heifers averaged £1016 per head or 227ppkg. Leading the way with the top prices per kilo were as follows:
