Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on
Monday 20th December 2010.
 
OTMS (16)
Only 16 OTM’s forward for sale. Cows averaged well at 100ppkg, Bulls averaged 90ppkg, Heifers averaged 128ppkg and Steers 133ppkg. Top price of the day was from J A Williams Llechwedd Ddyrys for a Charolais cow weighing 756kg and making £929.88. Other continental cows achieved £830.55, £818.96 and £741.08. Bulls topped at £805.11 for a Charolais bull from G G Williams West Fedw.
J A Williams Llechwedd Ddyrys receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price animal sold on the day.  
 
FAT CATTLE (2)
Only two fat cattle on offer a Hereford steer from E & L Davies Nantcribba weighing 575kg and making 135ppkg and a Blonde heifer from B Francis Glanbanwy weighing 565kg and making 138ppkg. B Francis Glanbanwy receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price animal sold on the day.
 
PRIME LAMBS (5777)
An entry of 5777 prime lambs, selling to a very good average of 179.76ppkg. 
Super Lights (84) to 176ppkg from R E Peate 6 Nantllachar. Others to 170ppkg from RP & CE Hodnett Wernygeufron. Average of 155ppkg
Lights (1126) to 186ppkg from DLG Price Bryncoch. Others to 185ppkg from D S W Jones Llwynderw. Average of 176ppkg.
Standards (1680) to 200ppkg from C J Davies & Son Waengwyn. Others to 193ppkg from MRM Matthews Tanyfron. Average of 175ppkg.
Mediums (2289) to 200ppkg from M Tomlins Wigmore. Others to 195ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Average of 183ppkg.
Heavies (471) to 191ppkg from C J Davies & Son Waengwyn. Others to 181ppkg from D R Oliver Tirdu. Average of 169ppkg.
Over Weights (106) to 165ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Others to 163ppkg from J A Williams Llechwedd Dyrys. Average of 157ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (1653)
A good entry of 1653 Cull Sheep to average well at £58.89 per head for the ewes and £73.06 for the rams. Ewes topped at £109.50 from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. E H Pennie & Son Gwernychain presented cull ewes to £104 per head. AP & JA Wilde Cefn Blewog presented cull rams to a top price of £117 per head.
 
STORE EWES & STORE LAMBS (114)
With six inches of snow on the ground, there was a small entry of store lambs today mainly hill lambs that sold up to £54.20 from I B Humphreys Upper Bryntalch Abermule. Store lambs are in demand however conditions are not helping. There will be a sale of store lambs next week (27th December 2010) commencing at 10.30am. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas. 
 
DAIRY COWS (5)
The winter weather kept many away from the Market however the five heifers and one cow that made it were well rewarded. Top of the day was a High Society Jed Durham daughter from Winsbury Livestock Ltd which sold for £1750. A 2nd Calver from the same home sold at £1650. Two Regancrest Diehard daughters giving 27 and 25 Litres respectively sold for £1410 and £1290 respectively. R D I & H Roberts Graig Farm Llandegla sold two heifers for £1480 and £1380. The next sale of Dairy Cattle will be held on Monday 3rd January 2011.
 
CHRISTMAS CRACKER SALE of IN LAMB TEXEL EWES
Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a successful 2nd Christmas cracker sale at Welshpool on Monday 20th December 2010. Six vendors had pre entered 52 sheep in the catalogue but on the day 40 sheep from four vendors where forward. The auctioneers and vendors would like to thank the sponsors Tithebarn, Bibby Agriculture, Agri Lloyd and Celtic Sheep Breeding Services.
The top price of the day was 750 guineas for a Llegodig Ewe OLL09 736 in lamb to Hollyford Nijinsky due early March and scanned with twins. The Sheep was purchased by Mr Davies of Warbury Farm Churchstoke and he receives the Agri Lloyd vitamin voucher.
MD & MJ Orrells went on to sell a 100% clearance of 21 ewes to average £386.50. N Gibbs Bettonfield Shrewsbury sold 7 ewes up to 350 guineas and averaging £260. R J Hughes & Co Argoed Trefeglwys sold ewes to 400 guineas and 350 guineas and R E J Pierce Oldfields farm Pulford sold ewes to 340 guineas and 300 guineas. Auctioneer J Glandon Lewis.
