Local postal contingency as Christmas looms

22/12/2010 @ 04:12

Residents in the Welshpool area can collect their own mail to ease the burden on the overworked postal service which is in a desperate race against time to meet Christmas deadlines.

The dreadful weather has decimated Royal Mail’s local service, and only last week the company issued an apology to Welshpool residents after admitting problems with its parcel deliveries.

But as the service battles increasingly treacherous conditions as well as an overwhelming workload, a contingency plan has been introduced to ensure as much mail reaches its destination before Saturday.

A spokesperson said: “Due to the weather, our postmen/women may be unable to get to addresses. Royal Mail sincerely apologises for any inconvenience the delay in receiving your mail may cause and we will endeavour to do our utmost to get your mail delivered.

However, a contingency plan has been put in place and readers living in difficult to reach areas can do the following:

-          Contact the delivery office and ask for your mail to be held to be collected by you in person. The number is 01938 552539

-          Mail can be collected from a post person who will be stationed outside a designated post office/pub/shop in the nearest village. Again, call 01938 552539 to obtain the details of when and where

The spokesperson added that the Royal Mail will endeavour to deliver to all addresses that are reachable, providing the main roads have been gritted.
