Motorcyclist, 16, killed in accident

A 16-year-old Newtown youth has died in a road accident between a motorcycle and a van near Welshpool.

Police have this evening named the motorcyclist as 16-year-old Kalun Longman from Newtown.

The accident happened at around 8.10am this morning on the A483 between Welshpool and Llanymynech.

"The two vehicles were a motorcycle and a Transit van. Ambulance and fire personnel were also at the scene and the road is closed in both directions. Sadly, the male motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries," said a Dyfed Powys Police spokesperson.

The main road was due to be opened late this afternoon.

Police appealed for anyone who was driving on the A483 between Welshpool and Llanymynech at around the time of the accident and who might have witnessed anything to contact them by telephoning 101.
