Pool fight back and Guils storm through

16/01/2011 @ 08:00

Technogroup Welshpool proved that they will not be going out of the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance without a fight by earning a point against Flint after being 4-1 down.

Pool looked dead and buried as a physical Flint, who picked up five bookings, stormed into a 3-0 lead through Mike Barnes, Jack Abraham and Danny Sullivan at a windswept Maesydre.

But Pool are made of stronger stuff these days and hit back through Chris Melia, only for Barnes to complete Flint's scoring. Lee McElneel then made it 4-2 before the half time whistle.

Wes Kilgannon gave Pool new hope with a 55th minute goasl before Nathan Mapletoft hit a deserved equaliser in the 81st minute for the troubled Welshpool side.

Three miles up the road Guilsfield pulled off a remarkable result by beating Rhos Aelwed with two late goals in the League Cup.

Guilsfield manager Russell Cadwallader finally believes the tide is turning in his favour after two goals in the final two minutes clinched a dramatic Huws Gray Alliance Cup win over Rhos Aelwyd.

And it was two moments of brilliance from teenage striker Ross Frame(pictured in action)  that proved to be the difference.

The former Welsh schoolboy international scored the last gasp winner after dancing past two defenders and dinking the ball over the advancing keeper from a tight angle to spark the celebrations.

But the win was looking unlikely for 89 minutes. Rhos took the lead in the second minute on a heavy pitch before Frame turned his defender in the box to find the top corner from 12 yards just before half time to level.

Rhos went ahead again early in the second period but substitute Graham Dyke equalised from close range in the 89th minute after good work from Gareth Jones.

Extra time seemed likely before Frame, who spent long periods of the game under tight guard, made space for himself before delivering the killer blow in style.

Caersws suffered a 4-2 defeat at Llangefni

Only three games survived the heavy rain in the Spar Mid Wales League with Berriew and Carno's 2-2 draw being the only match in the first division.

A last minute leveller denied Berriew the chance to open up a big gap at the top.
Visitors Carno battled throughout and earned a point with a 91st minute equaliser for a 2-2 draw. Rhydian Morris and Marc Jones were on target for the league leaders with Dan Kenyon and Tom Richards replying.

In the second division Montgomery continued their relentless charge for promotion at the first attempt by beating Llanfair United 3-1.
