Club’s pain is marathon’s gain

Caersws Football Club’s wide man Andrew Davies may be one of the more senior players in the Bluebirds squad these days, but there will be few fitter than the Forden flyer anywhere in football.

Davies (right), who has been with Mike Evans’s side on and off for 10 years is once again playing a pivotal role in the Caersws bid for the Huws Gray Alliance title, but he has broken the news to his manager that his love of endurance running will once again enforce an absence from next month.

“I’ve entered the London Marathon on April 17 and I can’t risk injury because the preparation is very intensive,” he said. “I had a great finish to 2010 and I am looking forward to recording some faster times this year.”

In the final month of last year, Davies finished top of a 250-strong field to take the nine-mile ‘Cardington Cracker’ race in Church Stretton. He finished a minute clear of his closest opponent.

He followed that up by ensuring the Boxing Day Stiperstones Devil’s Chair title stayed in the family by following his brother Tim’s footsteps to beat 234 other runners in freezing conditions.
