Guilsfield brace for cross-border raid

Guilsfield, still reeling from a bizarre series of events at Flint last week, are bracing themselves for a potential raid from across the border on their prized brothers.

West Midlands outfit Shawbury have placed seven days notice on midfielder Tom Coulson (left), and are believed to be sizing up brother Joe who has been a key player in the heart of the village’s defence.

It comes as the club has officially protested to the league about Saturday’s events at Flint when a clubman took the line when an official fell sick.

“Basically it seemed to be one rule for them (Flint) and another for us,” said manager Russell Cadwallader who saw his side go down to a last minute goal. “It was very disappointing and at one point we were going to walk.”

The defeat leaves Guilsfield still close to relegation danger and the news emanating from across the border won’t help Cadwallader’s plan for safety.

“Shawbury have put in seven days notice but I’ll be speaking to Tom to explain that he is an important member of the team. He played well at full back last week; I’d like to think he will stay with us. We don’t want to lose him, nor any of the other players we have at this club.”

Rules only allow for clubs to make one official approach to the same club at a time, but chatter from Shropshire indicates that a bid for Joe will follow.

It doesn’t get any easier for Guilsfield this weekend with a trip to Buckley who beat high flying Rhyl 3-2 last week.
