06/02/2011 @ 07:42

Bottom of the Cymru Alliance Technogroup Welshpool suffered another home defeat but gave table topping Gap Connahs Quay a real scare.

Pool led 2-1 with 12 minutes to go but Quay displayed their title crdentials by storming back with two goals to open up a five point gap at the top of the league.

Chris Herbert's new look side demonstrated that without the 18 point dedudction they would be title contenders themselves after Mark McGregor had given Quay a 35th minute lead.

Nathan Mapletoft had Pool level after halftime with a 48th minute strike and when central defender Gary Pinch put them ahead on 73 minuites an upset looked on the cards on a heavy Maesydre surface.

But their was agony to follow and Herbert could not hide his disappointment as James Macintosh struck twice in the 78th and 86th minutes.

The tough games are now coming thick and fast for Pool who travel to Cefn Druids on Tuesday to face former manager Huw Griffiths.

Guilsfield's showdown with Mid Wales rivals Rhayader was called off when a power cut hit the village leaving the changing rooms without light or water.

Berriew underlined their ambitions to become Spar Mid Wales League champions with a crushing 5-2 win against Llanidloes but title challengers Llanrhaeadr are still breathing down their necks, three points behind with three games in hand. Will Thomas, Ian Probert, Martyn Zieman, Neil Pryce and Mark Probert were on the mark for Berriew while Llanrhaeadr won convincingly 4-0 at Presteigne.

Waterloo travelled to the coast to tackle Tywyn/Bryncrug and came home with a point in a 2-2 draw.

And third placed Llansantffraid are also still in the hunt after winning 2-0 at home to Dolgellau at a muddy Recreation Ground. Dyffryn Banw's woes continued as they crashed 4-1 at Newbridge.

In the second division leaders Montgomery had a great day out. Not only did they leapfrog Kerry into second place by beating them 2-0 with a pair from Gaz Bromley but then heard the news that top of the table Tregaron Turfs had crashed 4-1 at home to Rhosgoch. Clive Mac's men are now just two points behind with three games in hand and are firmly focused on promotion.

Llanfair won 2-1 at Llandrindod for three much needed points while Meifod against Abermule and Bont v Four Crosses were both victims of the heavy rain.
