Incredible Andy!

Forden runner Andy Davies has pulled off the performance of his career to finish 16^th in the London Marathon and all but book his place in the Wales team for the Commonwealth Games.

Needing to run below two hours 16 minutes to be considered, Andy completed the course in an incredible two hours, 15 minutes and 11 seconds.

The lecturer at Newtown College Campus showed he is getting better with age by averaging 3.20mins or less per kilometre for the entire 42kms of the race.

“I’ve dreamt of that for a long time, but to actually do it I'm very happy,” he said at the finish line. “Thanks to everyone for all of the support.”

Andy will now need to wait for final confirmation of his seat on the plane to the Gold Coast next year, but his performance today showed he deserves his second appearance at a Commonwealth Games in a Wales vest.

It is expected that Welsh Athletics will nominate him to the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales (CGCW) who will then select a team of athletes (across all sports) to represent Wales in Australia.

There is a cap of 108 athletes (across all individual sports (excluding weightlifting and all para sports)) on Team Wales and as such, there are no guaranteed selections – simply nominations for consideration by the CGCW.

Kenyan Daniel Wanjiru, 24, won the men's race in 2:05:56, with Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia second.

Mary Keitany of Kenya broke Paula Radcliffe’s women's record to win in a time of in 2:17:01.
