A representative team from the Montgomeryshire & District Airgun League has booked a place in the final of the West Midlands Team Knockout following success over a side from theWenlock League.
The match was shot on a home and away basis but to avoid extra travelling the two legs were shot on the same night at the neutral venue of The Unison Club in Shrewsbury.
There were seven shooters per team with the six highest scores to count.
Sharp shooting saw the Monty team take the ‘home leg’ 204.8-200.7 with Martin Pearce shooting a possible 35.5 supported by Joe Hilditch (34.4), Richard Morgan (34.5), Paul Gwilliam (34.2), Alan Baker (33.1) and Richard Lewis (33.1). Such was the high standard, the 32.1 score from Jane Thomas was not counted.
The ‘away leg’ saw the Monty team step it up to another level to record a resounding 209.2-199.4 win.
Pearce shot his second possible of the night with another 35.5 and was superbly supported by two more possibles from Morgan (35.1) and Lewis (35.2) with back up from Thomas (34.5), Hilditch (34.5), and Gwilliam (34.4) with Baker’s 34.2 not required.
The final score was 414-400.1 and Montgomeryshire will now go to the final at The Victoria Hall in Broseley on May 14 to play either the Shrewsbury League or Wolverhampton League.
