A Trewern youngster has been called up to represent England after impressing in martial arts.

Katie Roberts, 12, of Trewern has been selected by WKU England to represent their national squad in an International competition in Germany next month.

The youngster is a valued member of MD Warriors, which is a part of the Kros Bros Martial Arts community, of which Katie is Vice Captain of their Martial Arts team.

Based in Oswestry, they have MD Warrior classes all over the region which also includes Powys Dragons.

Katie has only been doing the sport for four years, but coupled with hard work and the complete dedication she has put into the sport she has already gained her Brown belt (second Dan), which is only one short of her black belt.

In a statement, her parents, Mark and Donna Roberts, said: “To say that we as a family are so proud of her is an understatement, she has put so much dedication into it.

“We would also like to thank all who have given their support and particularly with sponsorship. That includes family, friends, including Sally Fitzgerald, Coco Coffee Shop and Clive Davies, without whom her continued success would not be possible.”

Katie will be joined on the team in Germany by her great friend and Kros Bros Team Captain, Rhian Yeomans (14), from West Felton, and four other team members: Charlie Sinclair, Hannah Sobhani, Lisa Van Vuuren and Halle Vaughan.

A great achievement for all six of them and a credit to the Kros Bros community, and we wish them all much success in Germany, but most of all Enjoy.
