COBRA clinch Bala double header

16/02/2011 @ 06:39

COBRA killed two birds with one stone last night (Tuesday) and boosted their title chances and booked a last 16 Cup berth in the process!

The Meifod-based men overcame sticky conditions and a resilient Bala side to win 7-6 to ensure an exciting final half of the season to come.

Bala went into the turn with a single penalty lead and it was just as tight in the second period when COBRA piled on the pressure and forced Bala to concede penalties.

After a string of offences on their goaline, Bala were reduced to 14 men when their no.8 was yellow carded. COBRA kept up the pressure and again Bala were forced into offences. Scum half Alwyn Williams saw his opportunity and took a quick tap penalty and scored unopposed. He added the vital conversion to give COBRA a 7-3 lead.

In need of a response Bala upped the ante, but COBRA defended well for the rest of the game, limiting them to a single penalty five minutes from time.

COBRA now travel to Monmouth this Saturday in the next round of the Swalec Bowl.
