This September, Welshpool Rugby Club is planning to celebrate in style to commemorate it’s the 50th anniversary since reforming.

The club was originally formed in 1926, with matches taking place until the Second World War, being a founder member of the North Wales Rugby Union. After a short reformation after the war was curtailed by petrol rationing, the club again resumed playing from 1952 to 1957.

After a 10 year absence, in 1967 the club was reformed, with the first fixture taking place on Saturday, September 2nd with a win over Builth Wells.

The club was a founder member of the Mid Wales District Union in 1977, and became a member of the Welsh Rugby Union in 1992. At present, the club run two men's teams, one women's side and ten junior sides.

On Sunday, September 10th, the club marks this historic milestone with a celebratory dinner at the Welshpool Livestock Sales Restaurant, with special guest speaker Sean Holley, the Scrum V pundit and former coach with Bristol RFC, Ospreys, Scarlets and Wales.

Tickets for the dinner cost £40 per person, and can be booked through the club website - www.welshpoolrfc.co.uk - or by contacting Gary Williams.  Email - gwcymru1@aol.com
