Your chance to drive rally car

As Mid Wales prepares to welcome the world's top crews for the Dayinsure Wales Rally GB in October, a local business is offering budding rally stars the chance to experience the adrenalin pumping thrill of real-life rally stages.

The Forest Experience Rally School in Carno, which was run by the Higgins family until early last year, offers full and half day rally experiences throughout the year for drivers of any age who want to try rally driving.

The business is now run by the Leach family, which has built and designed a new 4X4 course, introduced new cars to the school, improved facilities and reinstated an on-site B&B in Carno.

The Forest Experience offers rally experience days ranging from beginners to those at the top of their game in the world of motorsport. The rally driving courses are unique in their location, set in 900 acres of forest on genuine gravel rally stages, as used in competitions.

Rally driving techniques, such as handbrake turns and power-sliding, are taught throughout the day on the forest rally stage in preparation for the demanding, longer rally stage, which allows drivers to experience just how a competition forest rally stage feels in a rally event.

The stage includes hills and hairpins with magnificent scenery - not that many drivers have time to look - for the ultimate rally experience. The session finishes with a timed special stage where drivers compete with fellow rally enthusiasts for the fastest time of the day and a trophy is awarded to the winner. 

Alongside rally experience days, The Forest Experience offers bespoke packages for corporate days and group bookings. Events manager, Hannah McKillop, helps to put together the ultimate, adrenaline filled day with a combination of rally driving, 4X4 off-road driving and high-speed thrill laps.

Many people who visit the rally school also take advantage of the on-site B&B, Cambrian Stay. With a combination of family, double and twin rooms available, Cambrian Stay is the perfect place to get a good night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast before starting the rally experience.
