Welshpool are finishing their Shropshire Cricket League Division One season with a flourish after toppling title chasing Cound in a rain affected game.

With their target revised down to 206 from 41 overs, Tom Anderson struck a match winning unbeaten 101 to guide Pool home in the 38th over. Patrick Davies supported with 41.

The win puts Welshpool in a comfortable sixth spot ahead of their final game against Alberbury.

But it was another tough day at the crease for out-of-sorts Montgomery who suffered a nine-wicket defeat at Condover.

After being put into bat, Monty struggled to 103 all out which could have been a lot worse if Keith Griffiths hadn’t knocked an unbeaten 29 coming in at 10. The hosts cruised home in the 24th over.

Runs were hard to come by as Newtown’s up and down season continued at the weekend with a defeat at home to Premier League champions-elect Whitchurch.

John Anthony and Jack Morris took three wickets apiece as Newtown restricted the league leaders to a get-able 170-8. But the batsmen couldn’t maintain a challenge and were whittled out for 97 with only three players reaching double figures.

Guilsfield ended their Division Four season in a respectable fifth following defeat against Bridgnorth.
