Improving Pool lose derby
The visitors opened the scoring with an early penalty, which was followed up with a converted try and another penalty to take a 0-13 lead. Welshpool hit back with a try of their own shortly before the break to make the score 5-13, and they closed the gap to 10-13 with their second try just after half-time.
Llanidloes extended their lead back to 10 points with a second converted try, which was followed in short order by another to put them 10-27 ahead. Welshpool reduced the gap to 15-27, but Llanidloes again extended their lead with another score.
Welshpool secured their try bonus point with their fourth score of the day, and looked like narrowing the gap further as they pushed for the Llanidloes line, but the visitors were able to turn the ball over and break away for a long-range try, snuffing out any hopes of a Welshpool fightback.
Despite the game being lost, Welshpool continued to battle hard, and were rewarded with their fifth and final score of the day, bringing the score to 25-41.
Next weekend, Welshpool will look to move off the foot of Division 2 North when they host Llangollen at Maesydre. Both sides have only a solitary point to their name after their opening three games, having taken on some of the top sides in the division.

Wrexham 2nds 65, Welshpool 2nds 36
Despite being low on numbers, Welshpool’s second string travelled to Wrexham, borrowed some players and enjoyed an entertaining game of rugby.
Whilst Wrexham never looked in danger of defeat, Welshpool didn't allow the score to get too far away from them, keeping the game competitive throughout.
For the third game in a row, new players were introduced into senior rugby, with both Karl Hocking and Reuben Whitehouse impressing on their first outings at senior level.
Next weekend, the Seconds play their first home fixture of the season, when they host Porthmadog at Maesydre.
Welshpool U15s 53, Glyn Ceiriog Under 15s 19
Welshpool's Under 15s started their season off with a strong home display against Glyn Ceiriog, scoring nine tries in the process.
After a strong first half, the home side allowed their opposition back into the game in the second half, but finished the game well to run out convincing winners.
Mitchell Hunt led the scoring with four tries, with Iwan Bartley-Morris and Lenny McMahon-Lawler both crossing twice and Henri Evans completing the try-scoring. Bartley-Morris added to his total with four conversions.
Next weekend, the side will join forces with Llanidloes to take on Aberystwyth at Llanidloes.
Dolgellau U14s, 5 Welshpool Under 14s 50
Welshpool's Under 14s started the new season with a bang, scoring five tries in each half to win 5-50 at Dolgellau.
After dominating the early part of the game, Welshpool scored their first of the day with only a couple of minutes on the clock. Dolgellau responded with a score of their own, but from then on it was one-way traffic, with Welshpool notching up another four tries before the break.
They added a further five tries in the second half, with Lewis Wilde scoring a hat-trick, Lewis Thomas and Will Taylor both crossing twice, and one apiece for Rob Irving, Troy Manuel and Saul Evans.
Next weekend, the boys travel to Bala for a festival, where they will take on Bala, Dolgellau, Newtown and Bro Ffestiniog.
