Girls' football booming

10/10/2017 @ 10:43

Move over fellas, the females are becoming a dominant force in the area’s sports scene with a number of winter clubs reporting healthy numbers of participation early in the season.

Welshpool Ladies Rugby Club are enjoying a strong turnout for their training sessions and have successfully began a league campaign, and the same can be said down the road at Cobra.

The town’s ladies’ hockey club continues to figure prominently on the North Wales scene and the Dolly Mixtures Running Club has provided a healthy outlet for scores of local women.

And now Welshpool’s Junior Football Club is reporting an increase in numbers since an Easter promotion opened the game up to a new audience.

Every Tuesday from 6-7pm on The Flash astro turf, girls aged from 7-16 are invited to enjoy an evening’s training with a qualified female coach to enjoy the game and improve their skills. It costs just £1 per session.

For more information, contact Kate Gill on 0784 3902 699 or visit the Welshpool Juniors Football Club on Facebook.
