Title chase taking shape

24/10/2017 @ 01:35

It is getting tight at the top of the Montgomeryshire Airgun League with four teams remaining undefeated following week three action.

It was another tremendous night of scoring and in the local derby between Castle Caereinion and Llanfair Caereinion, scores finished all square with Richard Morgan shooting another possible (35.4).

Guilsfield A succumbed to Arddleen in a hugely tense and hard-fought battle, both teams breaking through the 200-point barrier with the final difference between the two excellent teams being a tiny 0.3 points.

Meanwhile, at the Admiral Rodney, Crew Green A dispatched a struggling Forden with ease, despite a fantastic showing from second-time shooter Shaun O’Connor who scored a credible 33.2.

Guilsfield B ran their visitors, Newtown, close but came up just short, the final score being 198.4 to 199.6.

Lastly, Churchstoke’s late order proved too much for Crew Green B (Churchstoke captain Brian Davies and his opponent Ian Brown scoring possibles along the way) in a hugely enjoyable and sportsmanship-filled encounter.

Arddleen, Castle Caerenion, Crew Green A and Churchstoke remain undefeated but how long this will last remains to be seen.

Eight shooters shot possibles on week three (scores of over 35.0): Martin Pearce, Brian Davies and Ian Brown (35.3), Richard Morgan and Aled Evans (35.4), Paul Edwards and Tabbitha Corbett (35.5) and a superlative Andrew Kelton, who recorded a magnificent 35.6.

Mini Olympics, Broseley

The Montgomeryshire League was represented at the Mini Olympics shoot in Broseley by 12 shooters who swept the board and brought home a huge variety of silverware, doing a fantastic job in the process of showing off the pool of talent that we’re so lucky to be able to draw on.  Hearty congratulations are due to all who represented the league.

Match of the week – This can only be Titanic struggle between Guilsfield A and Arddleen; a humdinger of a match with such a narrow margin of victory.

Shooter of the week – As mentioned above, Shaun O’Connor of Forden, who, on his second-ever match, recorded the highest score by his team.  Congratulations, Shaun.
