Churchstoke maintain lead
Despite being down to six shooters, Chruchstoke maintained their four-point lead at the top with a hard-earned victory at Guilsfield B, shooting below their average but nevertheless managing to edge the match by just 0.2 of a point.
The hosts excelled themselves, recording a score nearly seven points higher than their average of 194.4. Jane Thomas scored the visitors’ only possible, a 35.2, whilst Guilsfield B’s final shooter, P Edwards, took Churchstoke to the wire with a 35.3. But Churchstoke remain unbeaten thanks to their third win of the season that was less than half a point, giving their rivals plenty of hope as we hit the season’s home stretch.
Arddleen’s shooters took their match at a canter, their hosts Forden being unable to answer the confidence shown by Richard Lewis’s shooters. The captain led by example, shooting last to bang a 35.4 nail into Forden’s coffin. The match finished 180.5 to 202.0, with Arddleen’s young Jack Francis claiming yet another possible (35.3).
Crew Green A’s Edward Kelton produced another fine possible (35.4) as his side defeated Llanfair Caereinion 193.8-198. A confident CGA kept their heads well above water to finish comfortably above their average and to keep their opponents where they needed them. The midfield teams have little to separate them at this point, so results such as this may well be important come the final reckoning.
Newtown played hosts to the ever-dangerous Guilsfield A, falling to their visitors to the tune of 192.8 to 200.4. Newtown are very much a team in the early stages of their coalescence; however, no match in this league is a given and Guilsfield A needed to keep their eyes on the ball to win. This they did, with Roger Knight finding the bull with every shot, his final score being 35.4 points.
Crew Green B recorded the only home victory of the evening as they held off Castle Caereinion to log their fifth win of the season. The final tally was 199.7-196.8, with the ever-reliable Joe Hilditch shooting the highest score of the evening, an excellent 35.6. CGB’s recent results show that they are fully deserving of their current fourth place in the league table.
