Smith leads Wales to Euro glory

Wales are the European Pool Champions thanks to a starring role played by local pool king Wayne Smith (right).

 

The Llanfair player, who captained the side, won 21 out of his 28 matches at the EEPF 2011 European Championships as Wales romped through the group stages unbeaten and overcame the old enemy England in a one-sided final 8-3. In the semi-final Wales trounced Belgium.

 

The tournament was hosted by the Malta Pool Association and it was a case of third time lucky for the Welsh having lost to England at the final hurdle twice before. Smith plays with the Oak A in the Welshpool League and Elite in Newtown and his recent form has seen him break into the UK top 10.
