Max set for Wales debut

26/02/2018 @ 11:40

Young Welshpool goalkeeper Max Williams is set to make his Wales debut this week in a showcase double header against the French region of Brittany.

The youngster is on Wrexham’s books and has been a part of the national U15s squad this season for training sessions, but he is finally set to make a first appearance this week when Wales meet the northwestern region on Tuesday and Thursday at Barry Town’s ground. The girls U15 team will be playing their counterparts in France on the same days.

Brittany holds fond memories for the Football Association of Wales after the national squad were based in Dinard throughout Euro 2016 and this exchange continues the strong links made during that unforgettable summer and not only prepares the young players for international football but educates them culturally.

Max is in good hands this week, with the squad coming under the supervision of respected coach, Osian Roberts, who has just been confirmed as a member of Ryan Giggs’ backroom staff.

“These games will give our young boys and girls the opportunity to test their skills against strong opponents," said the FAW Trust Technical Director.

“Many young talents have progressed rapidly from our regional and national development squads to the national team in recent years and these matches provide national managers Ryan Giggs and Jayne Ludlow the opportunity to assess those who are next in line.”

Max has been backed by a number of local businessmen and supporters and would like to thank: Mark Lloyd, Plumbline; Steve Davies, SM Davies Transport; Paul Harding; Ray Williams, Mobile Mechanic; Ian Evans, steel construction; Paul Alexander of Alexanders; Jim Mason; Complete commercial components of Welshpool; Dave Poyner of Links Electricals; Rupert and Robin Shingler.
