Newtown’s hopes of booking a spot in the final of the JD Welsh Cup are over, following a 2-1 defeat to Aberystwyth Town at Bala.
The Seasiders had defender Declan Walker to thank for two goals, including a penalty, in each half that saw off the Robins challenge.
Nick Rushton gave Newtown hope with a penalty of his own, but Aberystwyth held out to book a final date against Connah’s Quay who thrashed Bangor City 6-1.
Meanwhile, Guilsfield’s Huws Gray Cup tie against Holyhead was finally played at the fifth time of asking. But it wasn’t good news for the villagers who were defeated 1-0.
Otherwise it was yet another weekend of misery for local football with an almost complete washout.
